Yesterdays prayer turned into a beautiful encounter today. Along my route I met an old couple Ben and Sally. I had a brief chat with Ben when I first came to their house to read their meters. He marveled at my biceps while asking me if I work out and we talked about utilities and briefly his sons as well as the places he lived. I greeted him good day and went on to read the rest of his street and on the way back he flagged me down saying my wife wants to meet you. We talked about demographics and family and the one topic that got to me the most was the couples lonliness.

Sally mentioned their kids don’t really come around any more because their busy with work and their families. Other than that their family is all either out of state or in the Philippines. Because of this, the couple don’t really have people around and they’re pretty lonely. It was apparent with their insisting manner of holding a conversation with me. Sally was even very open about it when she insisted I come visit her and bring my grandma so that she could have someone to talk to. We exchanged numbers and chatted some more before I had to leave to complete my route. But before leaving I helped Ben bring to the back yard a stack of wood he was using to raise his fence higher because of “pesky neighbors.” 

Its moments like this where I can’t help but feel that there is no coincidence. That someone up there is watching me…
